Some quick tips
Jacksonville Beach’s public murals are numbered from north to south along the AIA corridor (also known as Florida’s east-coast highway). Eleven murals can be found along or a block or so off the busy thoroughfare, and five more are clustered in locations along Beach Boulevard.
If you’re a new or prospective Seven Pines resident who’s unfamiliar with the area or hasn’t done much exploring, simply exit the community onto Beach Boulevard and turn right (east). Beach Boulevard takes you straight to Jacksonville Beach, ending at its intersection with A1A.
Before you arrive, check out mural Nos. 10-14 — or catch them on your route home. Turn left (north) on A1A to seek mural Nos. 1-9. Turn right (south) to seek mural Nos. 15-16.
While on the trek, google an artist’s or establishment’s social media or website to learn more about a mural’s back story and the person or people who rendered it. Some murals are untitled, and a few artists are unknown, but coastal living and colorful sea life are reoccurring subjects.
New murals also appear. If you spot one not on the current map, step inside the business or public location bearing the artwork to ask for more background, if you like.
An artful sampling
It’s difficult to highlight 16 public murals individually here, but we’ve pulled out a few to illustrate the striking artwork you’ll see along the Jacksonville Beach mural trail.
No. 4 — “Jacksonville Beach” by an unknown artist. It’s the timeless post-card script of the city’s name rendered in whale-size form along one side of Graffiti American Burger Bar.
No. 10 — “Anti Bad Vibe Shield” by Australian artist Ozzy Wrong (Wright) on one side of Sunrise Surf Shop. The colors alone will lift any bad mood.
No. 16 — “JAX Beach” by local artist Brad Jones features a giant sea turtle cruising ocean depths across the side of a car wash. It’s the southernmost mural on the Jacksonville Beach mural trail.
